Those are the words Rev. Ray Murrin of St. John's Church in North Vancouver on fire that razed the con- gregations’ 75-year-old home last Friday. While fire investigators and RCMP lab specialists sift through the remains of the church in efforts to establish the cause of the fire,. the church has begun: the process of evaluating the loss and making plans: for a new church. Rev. Murrin, who was ‘in- formed that the church was burning at $:30 a.m. Friday, : said seeing. the building: in ‘flames was “‘one.. of : the greatest shocks" of his life. The’ shock, though, has been more than balanced by the effect the fire has had on the church, ‘Cf anything, | _ denominations, - groups and individuals. this: has knitted us together as acon . gregation,’’ says Rev. Mur- tin. “We've always had a close, community-minded group but a great unity has come from all of this.” As well as the closeness the disaster has generated among members of the con- gregation, the fire has also - resulted in support from members of other churches and groups across the North Shore. That support, says Rev. While that goes on —- and the reconstruction of a new church at the same site takes place — services will con- tinue to be held in the church hall: adjacent to the church. Meanwhile, fire officials say it will likely be a week -before the exact cause of the fire is established. They and police are continuing to treat the fire as ‘highly suspicious’, however, and arson is strongly suspected. The fire was reported by a passerby carly Friday morn- ing and, before it could be extinguished, had caused heavy structural damage to the building. The fire appears to have Started at or near an en- trance door and from there to have spread quickly through the wood frame building. | FREE PRESCRIPTION DELIVERY broken in crash A NORTH Shore woman suffered a broken leg when her vehicle was forced into the path of an oncoming car on Capilano Road Thursday afternoon. The unidentified woman was driving north on Capilano Road in the crub lane when an as-yet uniden- tified driver forced her into the curb. _ The woman’s car spun out of control and crossed the centre dividing line of the toad and was struck by. a south-bound vehicle. The driver of the car that forced the woman into the curb fled the scene and is be- ing sought by police.
