THE North Vancouver RCMP detachment held a Volunteer Appreciation Christmas Party Wednesday night in the detach- ment’s Emergency Operations Centre. The party was held to thank the approximately 200 volunteers who work in North Vancouver’s three community policing centres (Lower Lonsdale, Lynn Valley and Edgemont), and the Blockwatch and Block Parents programs. Volunteers are an integral part of the community because they free up police officers. Volunteers have many tasks, including dealing with the public, taking com- plaints, working at the Child ID programs, and many other important tasks. Mayor Don Bell, Mayor Jack Loucks and Supt. Graham from the North Vancouver RCMP detachment spoke at the event, and volunteers and their guests enjoyed a standup buffet and other refreshments. Metzger, who wore festive Christmas earrings, has been a Blockwatch volunteer for 10 years, Weber for two and McKerracher for 13. Ramak Ghavami, who works for the North Shore Multicultural Society, and her husband Farahmand Ehaxati, who is an RCMP volunteer and an employment counsellor at North Shore Continuing Education, tried out the buffet.
