The North Shore teen was grant- ed a full tennis scholarship from the University of Minnesota. Rose attributes her recent success- es to Clark, who runs the Colleg: Knowledge sports program on the North Shore. To her credit, the young athlete is ranked as the number one under-18 female tennis. player in B.C. Tt was Rose’s father Alan that reg- istered her with the Hollyburn Country Club in West Vancouver, the club where she learned to play the “My parents have always been very supportive of all that 1 do,” she remarked. “It was my Dad that got me into plaving rennis to begin with.” Although Rose would prefer co remain in Canada, secking a scholar- ship st a Canadian university wasn’t an option for the budding tennis player. “Tennis at Canadian universitics isn’t that big at all,” she said. “For example, UBC just started a tennis program this year ... sports scholar- ships of this kind are far more com- mon in the U.S.” The American scholarship covers the cost of her studies and the fre- quent travel associated with compet- ing at an elevated level. @GPORTS —__ ns tennis sci Narship “Irs more expensive co study in the United States,” Rose admitted. “But everytime I went to a competi- tion ourside of Vancouver it was at niy expense.” Studying pre-med at the U of M and ad..cring to a strict tennis regi- men is not going to be an casy sched- ule to juggle.
