“IT don't think it’s hypocrideal for me to say
anarchy doesn’t entirely work for me — even
though it's a great song: Anarchy in the U.K,
it is one of the best rock songs ever written, but
still... for someone that grew up in Calgary, it
is an abstract concept.”

On the other hand, David Mitchell, who
did not seck reelection during last year’s
provincial election, was likewise invelved in the

music scene, but doesn’t view the experience as
having nearty as much influence on his lite.

“There wasn't an overdy political side on it
really apart from the fact we were rebelling
from the stick big bands popular at that time,”
said Mitchell,

“It's hard to be profound about the things
that happened in. my teenage years,” offered
Mitchell as a qualitier,

As for similarities between the: music scene
in the 1970s and politics in the 1990s, Mitchell
doesn't dig beneath the superficial,

“T guess politics is a performance art,” he
said. A common thread between the two, sug:
gests Mitchell, may be the desire to stand out
and be different,
