AN IRON coffin is not Maggie
‘Carpenter's ideal final resting
place: for many of Canada’s
heroes. Particularly if one of
them is her own brother. .

James Gilbert Carse was one of
many young Canadian men who
paid the ultimate price in the name
of honor and valor fighting for what
they thought was right.

In Qetober of 1940. Carse’s ship,
the -HMCS Margaree, wes on its

rying supplies for the British.’

However, the Canadian destray-
er-class ship never made it back to
safe harbor.

To this day most of the men who
went down with it have not reached
their rightful resting places.

“Boys lost at sea ... domt even
have . graves,” said: Maggie
Carpenter, adding that most of the
bodies were never recovered.

and recognized in memorials across
the country, but the commemorative
plaques ca these are far from com-
plete.
