10 — Sunday, Juty 19, 1992 - North Shore News BOOKWORMS ARE bugged by the federal govern- ment’s refusal to remove the goods and services tax (GST) from reading material. The Don’t Tax Reading Coalition has launched a $50,000 campaign to pressure the government to end the 7% tax on books, magazines and newspapers. In the first year of the tax, book sales dropped 10% and magazine subscriptions feli by 50%. The coalition says the tax discourages people from reading and leads Canadians to buy their books over the border. But many people devour books despite the GST, at home or in the library, while others are much happier watching television. - Mio Gannon INQUIRING REPORTER AGENDAS North Vancouver City Council: Next meeting is July 27.
