Always I Anna Marie D’Angelo News Reporter dangelo@nsrews.cont STEVE Hodgson lives with cancer everyday. The 39-year-old North Vancouver resident is in remission from Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Hodgson was diagnosed with the lymphatic system cancer in 1996. “Whether you are in remission or you have a relapse or you are terminally diag- nosed or you are a long-term survivor, you are always living with cancer,” said Hodgson, In his case, Hodgson wonders each day if his cancer will retura. Hodgson was on an emotional roller coaster when first diagnosed and treated for cancer. He found thar there was a lot of medical treatment available, but there was not much emotional support beyond his loved enes in dealing with the sometimes fatal disease. Hodgson nopes the video will be seen by anyone whose fife has been touched by cancer. The 35-minute video, Living with Cancer — Emotional Perspectives, was slated for its first official showing two days ago at an invitation-only event at the B.C. Cancer Agenevy in Vancouver. Hodgson narrates the video which includes comments from 54 people, azes six to 84. The people in the video have cancer, are cancer survivors or are relatives of people with cancer. “T actually knew how they felt,” said Hodgson about doing the interviews, Hodgson hopes the video will be the first in a serics of films he will produce about cancer. He is planning a second video that lenses: ving with cancer will deal with the loss of a loved onc. Hodgson was diagnosed — with Hodgkin’s lymphoma while living in England. W fith treatment, Hodgson went inte remission nine months atier being diagnosed. He is currently mid- way to the magic five year point in remission where a cancer is said to be cured. Hadgson moved to Vancouver one- and-a-half years ago. “When I came here, | thought it was a near idea to try and document people's feelings when they live with cancer, the emotional side, nor the clinical side,” said Hodgson. Hodgson has support for the video from the Canadian Cancer Society (B.C. and Yukon Division,) Vancouver and Ri ‘mond Health Board, Lions Gate Ho., tal, Callanish Healing Retreats and Hope Cancer Health Society.
