floor that we would like to cover with

carpet in the recreation area. Is there
something we can put over the conerete to
make the flaors warmer?

Below grade concrete basement floors
8 tend to be very uncomfortable to walk on

because they tend to be cold. Now that

you have decided to develop the base-
ment area vou will want to warm the floors as best as you can.

First wash the concrete surface (painted or unpainted) with a tri-sodium
phosphate wash (1 cup tri-sodium phosphate to 2 ¥ gallons hot water).
Serub well and rinse with clear water. Allow to dry 12 hours.

To give the floor a warm feeling, add a layer of Homasote Comfort Base
(a 4” reeyeled newsprint product) gluing to the concrete surface with a
construction adhesive. You can install underpad and carpet directly to the
surface of Comfort Base. If installing vinyl tile or vinyl sheet flooring you
need to first apply an approved rigid shect underlayment to the surface of
the Comfort Base. The Homasote Comfort Base application forms a ther-
mal break between the concrete and the finished floor surface giving you
a very comfortable warm floor.
Suggested rigid sheet underlayment; U-lay, plywood, fibrebond or struc-

ture board.
