Smith isn’t concerned about a letter from a West
Vancouver resident that demands his resignation

from the school board.

Smith, who = said letter
writer Noordin Madatalh was
‘‘off-base on his facts’’ in
the March 15 letter, said he
is ‘‘not (taking the letter
senously) at all.”’

In his letter, Madatah
**humbly’’ asks Smith to
immediately resign as a
trustee on the grounds Smith
has ‘‘publicly confirmed the
fact that (he) will only put in
$200 worth of work and (he
has) proven (himself) to be
ineffective in carrying out
(his) duties.’’

Madatah, who has tangled
with Smith at school board
meetings over the issue of
West Vancouver’s refusal to
lease space to the North
Shore Independent School
Society, says he was
astomshed ‘‘at the comment
you publicly made at the last
Board meeting to the effect
that the West Vancouver
School Board only pays you
$200 a month and _ surely
they can only expect to get
so much of your time for
those amount of dollars ”’

of that, the time I can devote
to the school board is natu-
rally limited.’’

The letter also takes Smith
to task for his part in the
district's decision not to
lease surplus school space to
the group attempting to
establish a new independent
school on the North Shore.

Madatali says Smith and
trustee Norm Alban have
been unable to confirm or
identify a method for in-
dentifying surplus school
properties, the cost of
maintaining them or an ef-
fective system for seeking
potential users for the
schools.

The letter also accuses
Smith of being vague or
contradicting himself during
debate and of disparaging
the $80,000 offer for use of
the school as ‘‘chicken feed’’
while supporting a plan to
increase fees for use of
schools by outside groups tos
raise $25,000
