The situation was so bad ‘that the citizens themselves petitioned the government to do something about it. -That was in 1971 and. the overnment acted promptly. They appointed Dr. Pekka Puska as’ Director of: the North Karelia Project. | Dr. Puska, recently in Edmonton to attend a World Health Organization meeting,, was brought to Vancouver by the B. Cc.
