ae your LOO} NOW ONLY - NV man jailed A 23-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was jailed 10 days recently in connnection with charges of dangerous driving and a hit-and-run accident involving a man. Jason William Osadchuk, 23, of North Vancouver, was found guilty of the charges stemming from June 30, 1992, incidents on Fell Avenue in North Vanconver City. Osadchuk also received 12 months’ probation and is prohibited from driving for 18 months. North Vancouver provincial court Judge Jerome Paradis recommended Osadchuk serve his sentence on weekends. Osadchuk was sentenced in North Vancouver provin- cial court on Tuesday, June 22. Dodge damaged A 1988 Dodge van was severely damaged by fire on Tuesday, July 6, near St. Geerges Avenue and 19th _ Street in North Vancouver City. The fire, which started at approximately 10:30 a.m., had damaged the vaii’s engine and made its way into the esb of the vehicle when firefighters arrived, said a North Vancouver City Fire Department (NVCFD) spokesman. The woman who owned the vehicle expressed concerns at the scene that the fire department took’a long time to respond, but-response time was clocked at under three - minutes, said the NVCFD spokesman. Ray Perrault said Tuesday. By Surj Rattan News Reporter He made the comment one day after the senators voted to cancel a $6,000 expense allowance they had voted themselves less than a month ago. The allowance for the country’s 104: senators subsequently came under heated criticism from tax- payers and MPs. That criticism resulted Monday in an 80-1 Senate vote to rescind the package. Three B.C. senators failed to show up for the vote. Perrault, who was not in the Senate to vote on the senators’ al- lowance last month, voted to res- cind the expense allowance this eek and introduced a motion on Monday urging al] MPs to rescind a similar $6,000 expense allowance they had voted themselves on April 1, 1991. ‘I was opposed to the increase when the (Senate) vote was first taken,” said Perrault. He added that the orginal vote was not scheduled to be held when the Senate had adjourned for summer vaction. “‘We should invite the members of the House of Commons to take similar action, starting with. the parity leaders. There’s no reason MPs can’t take similar action. “The signal is out there and it isn’t a great deal of money in terms of indemnity,’’ said Per- rault.
