Police told the News the harassing phone call complainant-was Preckel himself. “They're not even harassing (calls), just hang-up calls,” RCMP Const. Tom Seaman said. “(Preckel) i is alleging that ... whenever he answers, the person hangs up. Whenever his employee’ answers, whoever it is asks a ~ bunch of questions about the company, but doesn’t want to give a name.” Seaman said the RCMP are tracing the calls. But Nietsche denies making any hang-up calls to Pine Systems. “Why would 2” he said. “There’s no point.” He added, “Everyday we get hang-up calls too, about. three or four a day for the past seven or eight months. We should com- plain to the police too.” Nietsche said he and his employees only call Pine Systems to compare prices. After much debate, city council decided it would stick to enforcing its bylaw — which prohibits Pinc Systems from selling comput- ers at its Brooksbank location. Surprisingly, Preckel told the News out- side the meeting that he was not disappoint- ed in council’s decision, “I will take the avenue of least resis- tance,” he said. “If forced with confronta- tion with the city, | have no chance of win- ning.” : Preckel said Pine Systems will “cease to exist.” “We will liquidare our assets and travel south,” he said. “I have three job offers in the States with a six- figure salary.
