Skating star Dorothy Hamill and her 1994 Ice Capades skating extravaganza were to be bedding down at the Century Plaza on Tuesday night. While the rest of the cast and crew did just that, Dorothy was unable to make the trip due to a family emergency back East. It was particularly disappointing r 4 ANN & ROBERT for one of Dorothy's special friends, North Van composer Michael Conway Baker, who had written a beautiful new musical soundtrack for the new ice skating production, the first time in his- tory that an original score has been created to accompany an ice ballet production. Michael composed the breathtaking. music for Cinderella — Frozen in Time. The score, under Michael's direction, was recorded by the world-renowned Sinfonia of London Orchestra whose award-winning credits in- clude Warner Brothers’ Batman and Out of Africa. seit Michael Conway Baker has written dozens of highly acclaimed music scores for movies and TV, including the award-winning movie The Grey Fox. He was aided in his musical ef- forts by Bruce Dunn of White Rock, who orchestrated and con- ducted the Sinfonia Orchestra. And ‘despite the fact that it wasn’t Dorothy donning the skates at the Coliseum, the award-winn- ing Russian skater Elena Kvit- chenko helped make it musical magic.
