Senate because he’s about to be appointed our province’s

newest Lieutenant-Governor,

Government House in Victoria.

Names abound as to wha would
replace Ray, but the name that
keeps cropping up is that very
hard-working Liberal organizer

brilliant composer and artist, An-
dre Gagnon of Montreal, playing
the grand piano in the lobby of
the Pan Pacific Hotel.

He was tickling the ivories fora
segment of BCTV’s The Perfor-
mers.

The production team included
on-camera interviewer Chris
Hebb, freelance cameraman and
veteran producer/director Michael
Meas,

Julia Koo had been cocooning
in her home in West Van as she
and her husband Ken Koo antici-
pated the late December arrival of
what Julia heartfully refers to as
“my first and our fourth”’ in ref-
erence to their blended family.

Julia and Ken are the creative
sparkplugs at Ken Koo Creative
Group, the Vancouver marketing
and creative services house that
gave Clearly Canadian their win-
ning lonk.

Thiey finally. received their
wondcifui Christmas present just

"- prior to the big day on Thursday,
Dec, 23, when Julia gave birth to
a7]b. 11 oz, baby daughter
named Shone at Grace Hospital.

Shone was also a birthday
present for her mother. Julia was
celebrating her birthday on
Christmas Eve! Happy everything!

Skating star Dorothy Hamill
and her 1994 Ice Capades skating
extravaganza were to be bedding
down at the Century Plaza on
Tuesday night.

While the rest of the cast and
crew did just that, Dorothy was
unable to make the trip due to a
family emergency back East.

It was particularly disappointing

for one of Dorothy's special
friends, North Van composer
Michael Conway Baker, who had
written a beautiful new musical
soundtrack for the new ice skating
production, the first time in his-
tory that an original score has
been created to accompany an ice
ballet production.

Michael composed the
breathtaking. music for Cinderella
— Frozen in Time. The score,
under Michael's direction, was
recorded by the world-renowned
Sinfonia of London Orchestra
whose award-winning credits in-
clude Warner Brothers’ Batman
and Out of Africa. seit

Michael Conway Baker has
written dozens of highly acclaimed
music scores for movies and TV,
including the award-winning
movie The Grey Fox.

He was aided in his musical ef-
forts by Bruce Dunn of White
Rock, who orchestrated and con-
ducted the Sinfonia Orchestra.

And ‘despite the fact that it
wasn’t Dorothy donning the skates
at the Coliseum, the award-winn-
ing Russian skater Elena Kvit-
chenko helped make it musical
magic.

Also skating in the 1994 Ice
Capades production are North
Van’s Sylvia Froescher and Adrian
Robertson.
