Unlike many other cultures which seem frozen in fixed historical positions the Balinese continue to create new forms giving their artistry a unique dynamism. The gamelan has also reversed the rocess of influence jv inspiring other musi- cians to work in its style. Contemporary composers such as. Steve Reich and Philip Glass have studied gamelan concepts for use in their own music.
