before any of us noticed that
February was Potato Lovers’
Month. The potato, friends,
has frankly suffered from a

bad press.
Cut out bread = and
potatoes. That’s the first

thing they usually tell you on
a diet. ‘Note the husky
matrons in the cafeteria line
passing up the mashed
potatoes, ignoring the french
fries, telling them to hold the
chips on the fish and chips.

Make your blood boil,
potato lovers? Well I should
say!

All right, non-believers,
those winking knowingly at
each other when faced with
the rantings of a zealot, let's
simply examine the facts and
let them speak for them-
selves.

supplies 35 per cent of the
vitamin C, 20 per cent of the
vitamin B6, and 10 per cent
of the niacin and iron you
need each day along with
generous amounts of other
vitamins and minerals.

And in these days of mind-
rattling inflation, that potato
is going to cost you less than
10 cents.

No sir, it’s not the petato
that’s to blame for that extra
hole you're punching in your
belt with the ice pick, it’s the
stuff folks slather on it, sour

cream, gobs of butter,
melted cheese, bacon bits
and so forth.
