The details of the set- tlements are these: THE LAND A total of 115 acres of land has been returned to the band. Twenty-six acres are in Ambleside Park in West Van- couver and include the pitch and putt golf course and other recreational facilities. The majority of the land involved - about 78 acres - is unused Crown land. Another seven and a half acre site is used for a Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District (GVSDD) sewage treatment plant and three acres are home for the ministry of Transportation and Highway work yards. THE MONEY The core of the financial award to the Squamish band is $900,000 from the federal government which is com- pensation for lands that can- not be returned. The majori- ty of those lands are the nor- thern approach to the Lions Gate Bridge and the B.C. Rail nght-of-way through the area. The band will also receive a $545,000 payment from the provincial government that represents the value of cut- off land, plus accrued in- terest, that was sold by the provincial government. Part of the payment from the provincial government also covers the value of gravel - $35,000 worth - removed from the land. Finally, the band will receive annual revenue from both the GVSDD and the Ministry of Transportation and Highways for continued use of their facilities. A 20-year lease has been signed by the GVSDD which calls for annual payments of $70,000 to the band, while the Ministry of Transporta- tion and Highways has signed a five-year lease with annual payments to the band of $45,000.
