‘Don’t get sick in pamphlet threatened LGH boss claims misquote LAST MINUTE cross checks over a statement made in a TV interview by Lions Gate Hospital Board President Ken Bruce threatens to stop the distribution of the Hospital Employees’ Union “Don't get sick in B.C. pamphlet.” The HEU had planned beginning distnbution of the pamphiet July 4 to tourists, to back the union's protest against Victona’s health care funding costs. In the leaflet. Bruce 1s quoted as endorsing the umion Don't Get Sick slogan but says he does not ally himself with the campaign He claims the attnbution stems from questions of reporters which followed a lengthy press conference Apni 27 in which Lions Gate announced layoffs and bed closures asa result of funding cutbacks Asked by a reporter uf he had any advice for the pubhc, Bruce maintains he rephed “Iry and = stay healthy ~ The hospital board president contends that the HEU turned the statement around to fit its own cam- paign, thereby misrepresenting him and that he has confirmed thts after viewing a TV chip of the press conference. The HEU has told Bruce the union would consider taking the pamphlet out of circulation if the quote was found to be incorrect but that umon officials would want to see the TV footage to confirm the point. Bruce say. that of they do that at wall clinch the matter, in which case he says he would require aot only a retraction but would want the pamphiect stopped Meanwhile, he suspects the assuc right be a con vement cxc oc for the HEU to halt its campaign which has drawn a backlash from other unions concerned about the spinoff effects by possible adverse reactions to tourism. “The word I get is that the union would like to find a way to stop the pamphlet anyway.” he says. That would be just fine as far as Bruce is concerned. “I'm not bebind the union at all on thts attack on the tounsm business,” he says. “We've enough problems in our economy nght now, without) hurting somebody who doesn't need to be hurt ~ Whether or not the HEU coptinucs its campaign, Bruce wants the connection with has own = statement cleared up “lam anmnous to have my name cleared as this ts an issuc to which I will not lend y name or my support,” he told LGH directors Change the dog. council advised “CHANGE was the North council to a couple plagued by cats digging in their YOUR dog” suggestion = from Vancouver City garden Complaints from 9 Alice Csrossman and her husband about cats destroying thew vegetable garden despite two fences and a dog were not highly regarded by City aldermen at) thet mecting last weck “Tl think . silly to bothes councel ith such a probicm | and ‘ \orman Ball Sar sor Mrank Marcing fan ! the couple sh. \ wie h to a fhherecr oh feo ows re) Uhre fclines awa However the Cs: asmans may take urther acthon, acting on adv of the BC Society for Prevention of Crucity to Ammals.
