UESTION: Could you please tell me the easiest way. to remove old

wallpaper to prepare to paint afterwards?

NSWER:
REMOVING WALLPAPER:

There are several factors which govern the ease with

which you may remove wallpaper: the type of paper; the
type of glue and the condition of the wall to which the
paper is adhered.

You may wish to try a simple method first. Using equal
parts of FLEECY FABRIC SOFTENER and warm

: _ water, sponge onto the wallpaper. Allow to sit for a few

minutes then use a wallpaper scraper to remove the
paper.

If you have a type of walipaper which is not water solu-
ble, you may have to rent a steamer at one of the local
renta) outlets and give it a try.

If all else fails, you may have to install a “liner" paper.
“Liner" paper is a paper which is applied over top of the
existing wallpaper. You can then proceed with a new fin-
ish wall coating, either paint or wallpaper.

‘WASHING PAINTED WALLS BEFORE

W RE-PAINTING OR WALLPAPERING:

Once the wallpaper has been removed, we would recom-
mend that you wash painted walls as follows: Mix 4
heaping tablespoons of trisodium phosphate in 4 litres of

warm water.

Wearing rubber gloves, wash the walls with a sponge. '
For best results, begin washing at the bottom and work
your way to the top of the wall. Rinse well with clear
water. The cleaning will prepare the walls for painting

* and/or the application of SIZING prior to wallpapering. |
