page 8, December 1, 1976 - North Shore News Modifications called for A decision on the contro- versial $1.5 million expan- sion of Fisherman’s Wharf Marine Services Ltd. was again postponed Monday by West Vamceuver council when Mayor Peter Jones handed the developers a suggested nine-point prog- ram for scaling down the project. The mayor’s plan calls for: *A hydrodynamic study to show that the breakwater will mot cause wave or pollution problems. *Confirmation that the breakwater will stand up to _ waves and a provision for replacing displaced rock. *Reduction of the volume of boat traffic in the tributary to the main channel by rearrangement of floats. *Federal government ap- proval of the breakwater design. *An undertaking to lease 80 per cent of the space to individuals who operate their own boats. vote -*Preference in the leasing of space to be given to West Vancouver residents. *A design modification to reduce the length of the breakwater. Continuation of gasoline service for the life of the project. “One group will benefit considerably and another group will suffer,’ said Mayor Jones.~ “I suggest these provisos be added before the project is consid- ered by council.”’ The matter was adjourned for two weeks to allow discussion of the modifica- tions between municipal planners and the developers. Tom Cross, speaking on behalf of the developers, later expressed doubts as to whether the proposed re- arrangement of floats would be practicable,, and had reservations about the gaso- line proposal. The company, he said could accept the other provisions, but would not go through another public hear- ing. In other business council approved a redesigned over- pass to link the north-.and south malls of Park Royal and improve the traffic flow when the shopping centre expansion is completed. Council also approved a $55,000 LIP project which will employ 10 men on the widening of a B.C. Hydro right-of-way.
