Dean says

PORNOGRAPHY — depic-
ting sex acts with children,
violence or any human
degradation — should be il-
legal and punishable by im-
prisonment, council heard
Monday.

After attending a recent
Union of British Columbia
Municipalities conference,
North Vancouver City Ald.
Stella Jo Dean asked for
council's approval that the
UBCM make a recommen-
dation to the federal gov-
ernment against the impor-
tation, publication, distribu-
tion, circulation or posses-
sion of such pornographic
material.

‘“‘We have to become
tough with pornography,”’
Dean told council. ‘So
many children are used for
picture taking in sex acts.
H’s up to the federal gov-
ernment to define whai por-
nography is. And this reso-
lution does have some teeth
init.”

Council agreed to the rec-
ommendation that the
UBCM request the federal
government to amend the
Criminal Code of Canada,
making it an offence to deal
in degrading pornography.
