SPEED is of the essence
on the Internet.

How we push and pull data is
the focus of an upcoming meet-
ing set for later chis month at
Capilano College.

The session will bring
together North Shore Netizens
interested in options tor high-
speed Internet access.

Connectivity 2000 takes
place 7 pm. to 9 pm.
Wednesday, Feb. 23 at the
Capilano College Birch Theatre.

The event is free of charge.

The objectives according to
Connectivity 2000 coordinator
Angela Trudeau:
@ provide an update on the sta-
tus of and future plans for high-
speed residential access on the
North Shore;

and Telus ADSL (Asymmetric

Digital Subscriber Line) — a-

technology that allows more
data to be sent over existing
copper telephone line service;

® provide information on secu-
rity issues for SOHO (Small
Office Home Office) users.

Look Communications Inc.
will be presenting information
on its new digital wireless cable
services.

“It’s being billed a technical
briefing for knowledgeable
users, so that people will not
being hearing a sales presenta-
tion, but they will be able to ask
detailed questions,” said
Trudeau..“This is a real group
effort. Basically the North
Shore News and Intel, as repre-
sented by Pine Systems, are
sponsors of the event.”

SmartNorthShore, Capilano
College, the Vancouver Linux

“Our objective apart from
this one event is that we'd like
this to be the launch of a tech-
nology industry association for
the North Shore.

“There are already a lot of
tech groups in the province, but
what I'd like to see is the oppor-
tunity for networking and part-
nerships to be possible for the
opportunities that come out of
SmartNorthShore activities.”

The North Shore has been
shortlisted in B.C. to tap up to
$5 million worth of Industry
Canada funding —_ available
through a national initiative.
