Q: We have ventilation fans in

our bathrooms but we don’t
like to leave them running all
day. So all the moisture does
not get vented outside. Is there
something that can be done?

*Bath and Laundry room ventilation
exhaust fans will cause more discom-

fort and energy costs than any other mechanical device in the
home unless properly operated. Ventilation fans are installed in
bathrooms and laundry rooms to exhaust unwanted odours
and moisture. To ensure the correct operation of exhaust fans
remove the single pole toggle switch and replace with an elec-
tric dehumidistat. A dehumidistat will enable you to set the
required relative humidity based on outside temperature to
inside relative humidity. For exampie outside temperature over
0 celsius, the dehumidistat shouid have a setting of 40% relative
humidity inside the home. This setting turns the exhaust sys-
tem on and off automatically.
