The general public does not know the “blaff?. trail it is not a formal trail; it should be noted ‘unmarked and crosses extremely dangerous terrain. Our statf, which maintains the portion of the Grind that we are responsible for, heard the genteman’s voice and Grouse Mounrain’s Safe Patrol was alerted and subse- quently dispatched immediate- ly to the scene. After voice contact was established and the hikers exact location determined, North Shore Search and Rescue was alerted while three fully qualified Grouse Mountain Safety patrol members and a tourth patroller, gathered rope rescue equipment and head: rte the terrain to begin the rescue efforts. Your article failed to men- tion that the reason it took the safety patrol} an hour and a half to get to the unidentified man was due to the nature of the terrain and the location of the subject; positioned amongst the gully and chi bands rty patrol reached the s and through a techni rope rescue, including a series of rope belays and climbing, skills, was raising the hiker back when NSR joined them and assisted in completing the evacuation with a second rope- raising system. I teel it's important to address the face that Grouse Mountain's Safety Patrol members, headed by Dave Faleon (stated Faulkner in your article) exposed th selves to very steep and dan- gerous terrain to assist a hiker that was stranded on GVRD owned and operated land. These facts appear to be over- looked in the story that your readers have been given. Ve have always remained very accessible co the media, especially to the News. Grouse Mountain would have appre ated receiving a call to v1 the facts. Instead it appears to your readers that our staff was extremely slow to respond and the *“NSR made it te the s ject using rope bela clinybing skills,” when in fact it was our own experienced safe- ty patrol.
