In addition to gencrous
corporate and individual
donations, funds were raised
through a mail solicitation
campaign, golf tournaments,
fashion shows, and other cre-
ative ways. One Pailiative
Care volunteer made jars of
marmalade, chutney and stol-
lens for sale in aid of the
cause.

“Two years ago when it
became evident that govern-
ment funding would not be
available for projccts like this
the foundation was
approached to take on the
challenge,” said foundation
chairman Jonn Sapinsky.

“Our initial goz!l was to
raise $1.4 million, and in fact
we raised close to 1.5 for this
project.”

Sapinsky commended the
tireless efYorts of the fundrais-
ing committee — chaired by
Palliative Care program vol-
unteer Mary Downie — who
processed more than 6,800
pits for the program. Indeed,
