Loaded handgun
seized from teen

A 13-YEAR-OLD robber had a
loaded 9-mm handgun with !5
rounds of ammunition in his
backpack when he held up two
West Vancouver boys on
Saturday near Park Royal
Shopping Centre’s north mall.

The 13-year-old Gibsons boy and
his 15-year-old Langdale friend
threatened the West Vancouver boys
with pepper spray.

The pair immediately tumed over
aCD and fled after being confronted
by the young robbers.

ored for her accomplishments
at a North Vancouver

ing Jan. 11.

The commission's chairperson,
‘Peter Bell, presented Sydor with a
lifetime pass to recreation facilities
‘in North Vancouver. Sydor has been
the world’s best mountain biker for
two years.

“It would be nice to present her
with the keys of our city in recogni-
tion of her tremendous accomplish-
ments as a mountain bike champi-
on,” Bell said.

Sydor was honored to receive
the award and responded with her
own gift, a framed picture of her
that had been on her wall at home.
It is the front-page picture from a
magazine capturing her crossing the
finish line in victory.

Robbery and
weapons
charges laid

Said the victims’ family friend
Ross Macdonald, “The kids did the
right thing by not retaliating.”

Macdonald said he was concerned
about the gun incident happening so
close to home.

“Who knows what would have
happened with this gun?” Macdonald
said on Monday.

West Vancouver Police Sgt. Barry
Nickerson said that police had caught
the suspects within 10 minutes of a 9-
1-! call. The two were apprehended

The 13-year-old, who is known to
police, is charged with:

The 15-year-old is charged with
robbery and possessing a dangerous
weapon.

Both teens were released from
police custody to their parents on
Sunday. The teens were scheduled to
appear in West Vancouver court
today.
