tion Challenge has finished,
with final numbers still not
yet available.

The Challenge’s purpose was to
reduce vehicle accidents during the
period of November !2-30, in five
distinct regions throughout the
province,

More than 80 communities in
the province were involved.

Traffic accident claims made in

‘each municipality are compared
with average claims made during
the past five years.

The number of accident claims
“experienced” for the period of
Nov. 12-26 are, however, in.

@ Surrey —- 808 (compared to
1,474);

@ Squamish — 22 (compared to
3);

@ Richmond — 496 (compared to
889);

@ Burnaby — 570 (compared to
1,143).

But if the Challenge were to end
today, with four days left to go,
the claims-reduction results for
the Lower Mainland, in order,
would be:

@ Burnaby — 48.2%
@ Delta — 48.7%

As can be seen from these
numbers, the North Shore did not
fare too well,

But, we compared well with
Squamish, which had a 340% in-
crease in accident claims.

Whistler had a 66.7% decrease
— probably because the snow
came late this year.

But, when you consider: the
toial reduction in accidents across
the Lower Mainland and the
North Shore, the program has had
an astounding impact.
