Cafe 1 no place for
a remarkable fish

Dear Editor:

A few months ago, | discovered
The Remarkable Dog, a new
cafe/store in West Vancouver,

! was impressed by the pro-
gressive decor and unique pro-
ducts and told everyone / knew to
check it out.

| However, my opinion of The
Remarkable Dog has changed
since their acquisition of a Chinese
fighter fish.

i ¥t-is truly amazing that this
creature has been able to survive
for as long as it has in the habitat
which owners David Vance and
Bronwen Wilson have provided.

. it’s sad. enough that such a
beautiful fish is in captivity, but
to confine it to a small vase

without an air filter, plant life or
any companions is out and out
cruct,

(Not to mention the fact that
I've never seen any food in the
water!)

One might say, “It’s only a
fish.” But where do we draw the
line?

And what gives us the right. to
draw a line, anyway?

{ don't think it’s ‘‘cute’ or
‘innovative’? to use this creature
as a marketing gimmick for a $475
designer vase.

Perhaps a more suitable name
for this store is “The Remarkable
Fish.”

Family Hoedown great success
through efforts of volunteers

On.behalf of the boatd, 1 would
like to thank the North Shore
News for their wonderful support
of the Make Room at Emily Mur-
phy House capital fundraising
campaign family hoedown and
auction, which took place Oct. 22
at Presto Catering.

This event was an enormous
Success and we thank you and
your staff, in particular Trixi
Agrios, for all the great publicity.

We would also like to thank the
organizing committee, especially
Georgy Good, Peggy Mulligan
and Linda Davies, for their hard
work and tremendous dedication.

Thank you to all our other

committed volunteers, including
the board and staff of Emily
Murphy House who worked so
hard on the night.

The North Shore Crisis Services
Society is a non-profit community
agency serving women and
children in crisis.

This event was part of our cap-
ital fundraising “Make Room’
campaign to build a larger, more
accessible transition house so that
we do not have to turn away twice
as Many women as we can help,
which is the situation at the pres-
ent time.

Dear Editor:

It is time to close down all the
legions!

They are nothing: ‘but pisstanks
‘for bigots and breeding holes for
racism, drunks, epciists — the ig-
forant.

Only the aboriginals and the
French have the right to complain,
not the Brits; as they robbed this

land from aboriginals.

Any Brit who complains or
throws racial slurs at anyone but
their own should be deported im-
mediately.

If they were born here, send
them to their forefathers!
