NORTH SHORE HERITAGE by Dorottiy Foster An early archives photograph of the July 1, 1906 parade on East Third Street shows the three houses very clearly with a lasge gathering of citizens watching the festivities. Decorated logs on horse-drawn ‘wagons are shown making their way along the parade route. The Wright House was built for H.C. Wright Esq., the manager for the North Vancouver office and assistant secretary of the Western Corp. Ltd. This company, formed in 1902, was one of the first major com- panies to take a great part in the development of North Vancouver. It was made up of a group of businessmen whose interests in- cluded real estate, land clearing, road making, house building, general contracting, saw milling and other enterprises. They were responsible for build- ing North Vancouver’s first com- mercial block (still standing at Lonsdale and Esplanade), the Syndicate Block, in 1903, as well as a number of North Van- couver’s most prominent resi- In 1908 this mill operation was moved to 17th and Sutherland (nothing is left now to indicate the dences and commercial buildings.
