Hike explores world of EXPLORATION OF the inner world as well as the world of nature is the unique experience of- ferec by the upcoming Hike to the Heart in the Stein Valley, Sept. 15 to 17. Led by Jacqueline (Simms) Sut- ton, the Hike to the Heart is an experiential workshop that takes WORKSHOP leader Jacquetine Sutton ...“‘experiential’’ hike in the Stein Valley. nature participants through pine forests and cedar outcrops, past petrogyphs and huge boulders and along the tumbling Stein River. Both men and women are in- vited to take part in this hike, which follows a similar hike held Aug. 18 to 20 for women only. ‘Although many of the women weren’t experienced hikers, they were able to meet the challenge of the Stein,’’ says Sutton, who described the experience as a huge success. The hikers walked in silence, to become more in tune with their thoughts and feelings. Sutton became enchanted with this idea after she had left the busy world of advertising to explore the mountains of Nepal. “I hardly spoke for two weeks, and I found it a rejuvenating expe- rience,’’ she recalls. One highlight of Sutton’s Stein adventure is camping at a huge wooden pole teepee, where par- ticipants share their experiences of silence and nature and relive the myths and legends of North Amer- ican native people through guided visualizations.
