Siuing in the shadow of North
Vancouver's Olympic Hotel, home
to legendary local characters
charitably described as ‘‘colorful’’,

Li Gardens has always been one
of Lower Lonsdale's better
Chinese food restaurants.

When new Li owner K. Wing
Jung took over the restaurant in
December 1986, he decided Lower
Lonsdale Chinese food fans were
ready for more flair and culinary

adventure with their usual diet of

army-issue Chinese food, which is
a popular second and third-course
follow-up to traditional
draft-beer aperitif.

He consequently added a touch
of Szechuan and southern Canton-
ese spice and snap to the Li’s repu-
lar Cantonese selection.

On a recent visit, | took my wife
and full family complement for a
test taste drive down the restau-
rant’s pew Szechuan side road.

Overall it was satisfactary,
