Since the destruction of
the 803-foot Hindenburg 42

years ago, large airships .

have been’ generally
Cismissed .as  absolete
dinosaurs which will never
fly again. They have been
branded slow, clumsy, ahd
dangerous. But the facts are
otherwise.

A consortium of local
businessmen, calling
themselves Tranzeppelin
Enterprises Ltd., are among
the rapidly growing number
of people who are convinced
that the airship is, in fact,
the vehicle of the future.
They are in the process of
obtaining an airship licence
and are also negotiating with
several companies for the

purchase of a_ small
prototype ship.
We plan to begin

operations within a year or
two,’’ says Managing
Director Ray Andrews, “and

we are looking for people we
would like to work with us.”

Airships now being
designed will be able to carry
loads more than five times
the capacity of a 747, and at
a fraction of the cost.
Furthermore, because
airships actually float in the
atmosphere, they do not
need airports, but can load
and unload their passengers
and cargo while in hovering
flight. Because of this, and
because they create only a
tenth of the noise or
pollution of airplanes, future
airships can casily operate
from city centre to city
centre.

The ability to hover also
means that airships can
move people and goods to
places that today can only be
reached by helicopter. But
whereas the world's largest
helicopter has a payload of
