18 ~ North Shore News -— Sunday, July 2, 2000 EARLY this year, North Vancouver District gave Lionsview Seniors’ Planning Society a small grant from its ‘Millennium Fund, in order that we could honour those residents who will be 100 years old or better this year. Since we know that many older people five in North Vancouver City and in West Vancouver, we asked for and received support tor this pro- + ject from these councils as well, Vith the help of readers of this column and people who work in care facilities, we dis- covered that there were 37 centenarians living in North and West Vancouver, 35 of them women. Since we started this pro- ject in January, five of them have, unfortunately, died. On Monday, June 5, at the beginning of the regular West Jancouver Council mecting, Mayor Ron Woud presented five pcople with certificates signed by the mayor. . We heard stories of their expe- nences in different parts of Canada, including Vancouver Island, Yukon, and the early days in the Dollarton area of North Vancouver.
