Ths society is anon: pret it organization which pre- motes the use of specially trained dogs to aid the physi- cally challenged with life's challenges. At first PE thought she was calling for a donation to the organization, but 1 was wrong. She was calling because she has come across a few problems, from a iminority of people, whe have been less than cordial with her and her Jack Russell, Libby, and she hoped F could help. After my conversation with Mona, it was clear to me that there are people out there, whether it’s because of ignorance or simply being insensitive, that are refusing these trainers and their dogs access into their establish- ments. For those people, here is a litle PADS 101! PADS dogs are very unique dogs. Besides basic - obedience these dogs have to learn how to conduct them- selves in every type of public environment. Their job will eventually be to accompany and assist their disabled part- " ner everywhere they go. The training for this behaviour is accomplished by the velunteer taking this young dog everywhere with them. The dog is imprinted ~ garly in life to be comtortable - and confident among all types of peopie, walking along all types of streets and entering into all types of buildings. Most people are aware of assistance dogs for the blind. But there are also service dogs who aid the physically disabled in retrieving items, turning on/off light switch- es, pushing shopping : 0556.
