Anna Marie D'Angelo News Reporter dangelo@nsnews.com THE president and part owner of North Shore taxi died unex- pectedly on April 17 while on a visit to the Punjab. Balraj (Raj) Manhas was 39. Mr. Manhas had travelled to the Punjab alone to visit family and friends. He became ill and was hospitalized. He died in the same town he was born: Jallandar. North Shore Taxi gencral manager Subag Singh said the exact cause of Mr. Manhas’ death was not known. “Hie was a good friend. He had a short life, but he achieved so much,” | said Singh. Mr. Manhas came to Canada in 1980 after being raised in a middle class family. Mr. Manhas drove cabs for Bonny’s Taxi and Yellow Cab until 1985 when he became a North Shore Taxi driver. He has been on the buard of North Shore Taxi’s since 1988. He was clected presi- dent last year. North Shore Taxi has a fleet of 84 cabs and 200 drivers, Mr. Manhas also owned Allied Radiators and Transmissions in North Vancouver.
