It-is time for Canadians to
start thinking about their taxes,
While many choose to prepare
their own tax returns, a grow-
ing number of individuals are
deciding to have their taxes
pre; by someone else.

and its general manager Valerie
MacLean want to caution indi-
viduals to make the decision of
who to use carefully. :

“Whoever does your tax
work will be’ privy to a lot of
personal information, so must

MacLean. “Also, you want the
work done correctly. If it’s not,
you're liable and you don’t
need the hassle.”

The BBB suggests checking
a potential tax preparer’s cre-
dendials and qualifications. If a
person says they have a profes-
sional qualification such as a
CGA or CA, check the infor-
mation with the Institute of
Chartered Accountants or the
Certified General Accountants
Association.

Remember that a CGA or
CA student is nor a fully quali-
fied professional accountant,
and should not hold him or
herself out as one.

Staying on the subject of
taxes, Revenue Canada has a
suggestion for those who have
not received their T4 slips.

First off, contact the
employer. If a T4 will not be
ready by April 30, calculate
income from paystubs noting
how much the employer
deducted for Canada Pension
Plan . contributions,
Employment Insurance premi-
ums, union dues and income
tax.
