Judge sentences kidnapping rapist to indeterminate period of incarceration

NORTH VANCOUVER provincial court Judge Jerome
Paradis found convicted kidnapper and rapist David Alex-
under Snow, 38, to be a dangerous offender on Friday.

Paradis sentenced Snow to an
indeterminate period of incarcera-
lion.

Snow's sentence will be
reviewed in two years by a review
panel.

“Mr, Snow is a dangerous of-
fender, He has shown he is 2
threat to. safety,"’ said Paradis.
“The prognosis for future treat-
ment for this accused is not
good."’

She praised Paradis’ sentence,

sad there are so many who are
going to hurt for a long time. I'm
going to go and hide in God's

country and clear my head.

“Over the past year | think I've
gotten to know Judge Paradis very
well. | knew whatever decision he
made today would be thought out,
He's earned my. respect.’ said
Cielineau.

The decision comes 377) days
after Snow was arrested by North
Vancouver RCMP at the Bridge
Houses restaurant on Capilano
Road, His capture ended a two-
week reign of terror,

During that time, Snow raped a
female employee of a Vancouver
women's clothing store.

He then held a womun hostage

the corner of Westview Drive and
the Upper Levels Highway in
North Vancouver.

He also abducted a female video
store clerk before he was even-
tually arrested. ’

Snow was found guilty last
September of sexual assault: caus-
ing bodily harm. armed robbery,
attempting to choke another per-
son and confinement against will.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to
several counts of armed robbery,
sexual assault, sexual assault with
w# weapon and possession of a
restricted weapon.

Police had earlier testified that
they found Snow standing over a

bound and gagged Gelineau al the
Bridge House restaurant and that
she had a plastic bag over her
head and a wire wrapped tightly
around her neck.

Police also testified Snow had
his hands around Gelineau's neck.
But Paradis found Snow not
guilty of attempted murder.

In a statement he wrote on
Aprit 5, Snow said he has ‘great
remorse for the crimes J have
committed and the pain [ have
caused” and added that -he expects
neither forgiveness nor leniency.

He has vet to face two murder
charges in Ontario.
