This year, the United Way will be campaigning ‘‘around the Lower Mainland in 80 days’’ with the organization’s own hot air balloon. The balloon will be at the Royal Bank at 1705 Marine Dr., West Vancouver, for the week starting Sept.9, and at the North Van- couver Royal Bank at 1545 Lons- dale Ave. for the week starting Monday, Sept. 16. North Shore United Way voiun- teers will also be raising awareness of the fundraising campaign at today’s Coho Festival in West Vancouver, and on the afternoon of Sept. 15 at the Family Day at Waterfront Park. North Shore residents benefit from several regional United Way agencies that have offices here, such as the YMCA and Canadian Menta! Health Association, but also have access to several United Way agencies that deai specifically with North and West Vancouver concerns. These include the North Shore Association for the Physically Handicapped, which promotes the treatment, education and welfare of people with physical disabilities. tt operates eight adult group homes, a dependent adult day program, a residence for five physically disabled children. a one-to-one support program for disabled children living with their families, referrals, and ma-z.
