OLGA KEMPO...sets up fund to
advance feminist goals.

Olga Kempo made the donation
to the North Shore Charitable
Foundation, of which she is a
founding member, in order to set
up the Olga Kempo Women’s
Fund. Donations from the income
of the fund will be made to quali-
fying individuals at the discretion
of the foundation’s board.

The fund was set up in the
spirit of a statement from Agnes
Macphail, Canada’s first woman
member of Parliarnent: ‘1 want
for myself what I want for other
women; absolute equality.”’

Macphail held her seat from
1921 to 1940.

“‘This very generous gift creates
a new fund, the income from
which will be targeted specifically
to projects and programs aimed at
the equality of women,’’ said
Roger Clarke, president of the
foundation.

Clarke noted the fund was an
open fund to which others may
contribute.

many people on the North Shore
concerned with women’s issues
will see this fund as a way to
create a permanent endowment to
address them,”’ Clarke said.
