Ly 12 - Sanday, September 17, 1989 - North Shore News inquiring reporter Elizabeth Collings FOR NORTH Shore residents, traffic congestion is a dai- ly fact of life. We try to plan our time to get over the North Shore’s two bridges before or after the frantic tempo of the rush hour begins. Most recently identified as a priority by the Greater Vancouver's Transportation Task Force in July is a widcniny of the Second Narrows Bridge from six lanes to eight. But other proposals — such as a third crossing of Burrard Enlet and additional lanes for the Lions Gate Bridge — received little atten- tion. Inquiring Reporter asks what changes you would like to see to improve access to aad from the North Shore. Cathy Jacksow West Vancouver One solution is to get people to car pool and use public transit. I would look into this bridge clip-on they have in Sydney, Australia. Prad Koweli Vancouver . Traffic can be pretty bad, The trouble with car especially the Lions Gate going south — maybe another lane on the Lions Gate especially where the lanes merge. Ken Grace Burnaby pools is people like to be independent. Rapid tran- sit is the answer. If you put a new bridge in what do you achieve? There's no outlet. Valerie Brooks West Vancouver As a regular commuter I'd like to see more lanes on the Lions Gate Bridge, another crossing or maybe 2 commuter ferry like the False Creek fer- ries. Brent Henderson Vancouver Another crossing will relieve congestion but at what price? It’ll increase the population of West Vancouver. Car pooling and public transit would help. .
