Tish’s studio is in North Vancouver on East 15th. From the basement of her home come = sophisticated designs which incorporate bold color and rich fabrics. Tish Northrup Designs have a unique European flavour with a strong sense of drama. Her new after five collection for Fall 83 is full of ruffles and lace and lavish to the last covered button. The choice of fabric plays an important role in_ her designs. Tish admits that it iS, in part, the material that inspires her creations. She designs ‘around’ the color, feel, texture and pattern of the fabric. In effect, the fabric influences her and she designs the cloth “instinctively and by intui- tion.” Many of Tish’'s clothes are in velveteens, laces, silks and taffeta but the majority of her work is made from an excellent quality of polyester. This grade of polyester which comes in many vibrant colors is just like silk (so much so that she had me fooled.) The fabric has that luxurious look and feel about it but it doesn't need expensive dry cleaning. All you have to do is throw this glamourous evening wear in the washer and touch up with an iron. Tish selects her unique materials at local distmbutors in Van- couver. She is especially in- fluenced by fabric from the onent and aspires to a buy- ing imp to the far east for future lines Maternal isnt the only thing that inspires Northrup designs. Tish gets her tn- spirations for her flamboyant ensembles from everyday hte Music. people, emo tions and attitudes all help Co capture that special feeling Tash’s personal signature as a designer is “a flair for the druamati in designs that speak othe international language of fashion ” There is an underlying feeling of seductive decadence tn much oof her after five and langeric Lines Volume sales in the inter national marketis the goal of this oupeand coming Van couver designer Another poalas to cducate the Van couser woman about their potential in wearing fashion [ish says women have to tealize that they are mula dimensional people that they can wear catravagant dramate outhits when and where they feel like it She Be Water Wise re When pornigg tating leone a Pleat polar a! wobec ott y oo haere vot ATE Poe ab A et eta abt eompoee todd) tas vechiatt Play ft Safe says women should feel as comfortable in evening attire as they do in their jeans and evening wear should not be restricted to after five.
