(Ellsworth Dickson photo) AT HILLSIDE Music for fun By SHANNON STEWART The teenaged crowd gives the Zig Zag Blues, a popular North Shore band, an ex- plosive welcome — even though they arrive an hour late. From the band’s Opening song to their last, the teenagers dance frenetically, only pausing be(ween songs to furiously cheer the group on. One of the most successful younger bands, Zig Zag Blues is almost launched. Yet, starting out in the music business is tough for new bands but a number of Hillside students are doing just’ this even though as Andrew Hillhouse, a grade 10 student with one of Hillside Secondary's newest groups, Hysterfa, says “You have to keep pushing to get anywhere.” Playing in a band can also be remuncerative, some Hillside students find. Manager Kevin Legge, former Hillside dean of congress, finds the band gigs playing at bars, boat cruises, private parties and high schools. For this group, music 1s serious business. They have made a tape at Studios West and distnbuted it to pub owners for prospective engagements.
