P understand there was only one man an earth and God had: te create a woman for his company Later mans things happened including Sodom and Gomorrah. Perhaps we should recognize that amongst us are many who are self: destructive. Most of them find their places in the prisons. But there are alwavs afew who are manipulative and manage to hide under the caver of such illusions as tree speech, journalism cic, and feed on ignoraniuses, For the North Shore News to sit on cance isto keep Mr, Collins elesaced thing ta the t that treedam of speech is limited to the owners of newspapers. Mr. Collins’ columns are interesting. Besides, PE like Mr. Collins. But then [like smoking too. Aftab Husain West Vancouver Dear Editor: I just looked = at www.nsnews.com for the first time today, and I'd like to say congratulations. You have one of the best newspaper sites on the Internet — better than most large daily papers! Kee it up! Knight Grice keh net Wav AOA ELON STHEIN ETS Siop whimpering and start making noise about bad bill Dear Editor: Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy ... this best describes the kind of speech the NDP would permit us if they get their way: a kind of homogenous por- ridge devoid of controversial ideas or thoughts. Along with my second cheque for the Free Speech Defence Fund, I would like to remind those who voted NDP that they are partially responsible for this reprehensible law which we are now fighting. Its implications for our future are best understood by those who have lived through, or at least scen, the kind of repression that accompanies lack of the free speech in more corrupt countries. Their horror stories should make us appreciate the limited speech we still have and cause us to be more diligent against further encroachment by gov- ernment controls. Freedom is not snatched from the public, it is gradually eroded if allowed; as T.S. Eliot put it, “This is the way the world ‘ends, Not with a bang but a whimper.” Stop whimpering and get noisy enough to send a clear message to the NDP on this issue; voters will not stand for this kind of suppres- sion and itis the worst, worst possible publici- ty for their party. We expect Peter Speck and the News will forge ahead and beat this bad rap — we're behind you all the way.
