So where does that leave the
perhaps least-talked-about vehicle
of all time — station wagons?

Unfortunately, most people do
not have a positive image of station
wagons. They classify wagons in

- the same category as refrigerators
and dishwashers; station something

to be bought of necessity, not out of

That’s really too bad, because in
many ways the station wagons rep-
resents the perfect balance between
practicality and performance.

. Unlike minivans and 4X4s,

panies have been working hard in
the last few years.

Subaru also markets a bigger,
more powerful all-wheel-drive -;

With a turbocharged four-cylinder
engine, the $30,000 Touring model
is anything but boring. The Legacy,
by the way, will shed its four-year-
old skin this summer and gain a

completely revised body.

BMW doesn't refer to its .5-
series people-haulers as station

wagons cither; ‘they are badged as
the “Touring” models. They also

feature one-of-kind dual sunroofs
that allow both front and rear pas-

sengers to take full advantage of the

sunshine.

es to keep its loyal BMW owner
happy with # powerful, well-engi-
necred 3.0-litre, V-8 engine nestied

Toyota tried to distinguish its
. Camry station wagon from other
rectangularly shaped wagons by

AirCare inspection before they go for their licence and insurance.
