Women’s words TAKE ELEVEN monologues by 11 women and put them together on the 11th day of the 11th month and you have Theatre West Van‘s opening of the award-winning play Talking With. First performed in 1982, the play offers a glimpse into the lives of what co-director Sheilan Dove calls, “eleven very different parsonalities from all walks of life. They are all very intriguing.” Perhaps just as intriguing, the work was penned under the seudonym Jane Martin and, according to Dove, ‘‘ro one as ever been able to find out who it is — whether it’s a she ora they.” NEWS readers may be interested to know that theatre _ critic Martin Millerchip supervises the four directors involved in the production while editorial staffer Tina Gilbertson per- forms one of the monologues. Millerchip hopes the play will challenge its audience. He advises that while there is much comedy in Talking With, there is also a lot of pain. “4 think Martin is asking the audience to accept the pain and not close it out. If we withdraw from pain we lose our capacity to love and be loved,” says Millerchip.
