By Kevin Gillies Contributing Writer Approximately 290 teachers gathered on Monday, Feb. 8,.in the basement of St. Anthony’s church, hall at 2337 Inglewood Ave, to show their support for the WVTA’s bargaining objectives in its. ongoing. dispute with West Vancouver School District 45 _ (WVSB). : “We want to be involved, in a significant manner, as to decisions that affect us. We ask no more; we expect no less,’’ Rowley said. District 45 teachers have refused since early January to do ad- ministrative paperwork as part of union job action to protest the lack of progress in contract talks. Because of the job action by teachers, they kave not been allowed to use’ school district Property’ to conduct union meetings. WEST VANCOUVER SCHOOL BOARD Rowley said he wanted reascn- able study and input from all concerned before services, such as those provided by computer con- tact persons, are switched to the librarians; or before programs, such as Challenge and Careers, are changed. Class size is a main bone of contention in the District 45 con- tract dispute. The union wants a contract clause that specifically stipulates. what a practical class size should be. “T want to return soon to a classroom in this district with ap- ' preciably better class sizes than I see now,"’ Rowley told the teach- ers, Rowley also said he didn’t want to see teachers forcibly transferred by the board just because the ad- ministrative officers didn’t like them. “‘All we are asking for, in terms of being treated in a fair, reason- able and non-discriminatory manner, is to be treated in a way that is consistent with our profes- sion. We want to be respected for what we are, and the knowledge skills and attitudes that we have,” Rowley said. . dventure:C Dear Alex Tilley, Here is a foto for your next catalogue.
