ITS ALWAYS ss great to start the new year with an exciting trip to another part of our world. It’s also a wonderful way to get rid of the January blahs. Be be JOY TELLS ALL I was fortunate enough to be -asked by CKNW and Michael Drever’s CruiseShipCentres to host 10 glorious days in the Car-° ibbean on board the elegant Sky Princess last week. The Dean of PR, West Van's genial Dean Miller, arranged a seven-day research trip in October which really whetted my appetite for more! We had a superlative time, returning to sunny Vancouver late last Friday night. After luxuriating on the elegant liner and touring such exotic locales as Princess Quays, St. Thomas and St.. Croix in the Virgin’ Islands, Montego Bay, Jamaica, Grand Cayman in the Bahamas: and Cozumel, Mexico, it’s tough to get back into stride! Lots of friendly folk on board ° slike Grace and Hal Pearson, North Van’s Winnie Wilkinson, the Hospoods of Burnaby, Helen and Gerhard Qesterle, Kay and Hank Nowak of Stundard Build- ing Supplies, Adria and Ed Hep- ling, the Mayners of New Westminster, the Draytons of Burnaby, Mrs. Leech and Mrs. Nowell and Mrs. Macleod, Vera, Florence and) Betsy Girvan of Vancouver and Mary McKinnon and Thomas Todd of White Rock. Besides the other 1,200 passen- gers on board the Sky Princess, Charlene and Peter Fassbender were also vacationing with us. Peter’s a vice-president with Palmer Jarvis Advertising and they had a great time wining, din- ing and shopping. One of the nice surprises during our trip was the arrival of the ‘Canadian destroyer, the Nipagaon, which followed us into the bay at St. Croix. There were 300 navy personnel on board led by Capt. Steve White of Van- couver, The Nipagon’s home port. is Halifax and they’ve been cruising the southern waters for some weeks now. | was fortunate enough to meet some of the crew on St. Croix’s wind-swept beach a week ago fast Friday. There were four clean-cut, wholesome young people who happen to work in the commun- ciations department as radio op- erators, trying to soak up some sun. Tatania, Natalie, George and Scott had their one-day shore leave to tour the small Caribbean community of St. Croix before sailing on to the Bahamas. Tatania is following in her dad’s footsteps as a naval radio operator, even though it causes her some distress. She gets seasick every day! , The Nipagon will be in our waters later this spring and the young people are going to come and visit me at my broadcasting booth at the VTCC. The Caribbean is such a delightful getaway — especially for 10 long lazy days. It does take a bit of time to get there, but it’s definitely worth it!... { arrived back in town late Fri- day night just in time to catch one of the glitziest galas of the year! The gracious Hotel Vancouver was jam-packed full of lovers — and most of them weren't even staying the night! It had to be the largest concentration of lovers under one roof. I had managed to change from my summer whites into my black silks in the plane’s teeny washroom and as I dashed in from the airport, literally right off the plane, who was the first per- son | met at this gala gala do? Who else but the airport's number one fly guy, President David Emerson, who was heading up the Vancouver Airport table. David was joined by some of the new Airport Authority’s board, including author and Deep Cove resident Peter Newman and a very proud Lyall Knott, QC. Lyall had every reason to be JANE HENNESSY ANN & ROBERT for professional & expert service in Real Estate.
