NEWS BRIEFS Truck burned FIRE DESTROYED a pickup truck Oct. 23 in North Vancouver. North Vancouver City Fire Department firefighters were called to the 1500-block of Lonsdale Avenue just before midnight. A mar had been driving a 1980 GM 4X4 when he noticed smoke. By the time he pulled over and escaped, the truck was ablaze. Heat from the flames, which leapt as high as 20 feet, bent a nearby lamp standard and cracked the glass win- dows of a bank. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fire department spokesman Dave Burgess is attempt- ing to locate the person who shot video footage of the blaze. He can be contacted at 980-5021. Budget meeting NORTH VANCOUVER District officials will hold a speciaJ public meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. at the district hall, 355 West Queens Rd., te disctsss the district’s 1993 municipal budget. Mayor Murray Dykeman said that over the next few montks council will be making budget decisions that will affect property taxes and services. Council is seeking public input on the budget pro- posals. “The question we'll be posing is: ‘Do these objectives provide an acceptable basis for deveiopment of the _ badget for your community in 19937,’ °’ sald Dykeman. He added that 2 new budget process approved by council iast year called for a public review of the budget proposals. “We ail know that budgets can be a less than exciting subject, so this year we ate trying a number of ways te get the community involved in the process,’’ said Dykeman. Sentencing of Snow scheduled for Monday AN ONTARIO man who was found guilty Sept. 11 in North Vancouver provincial court of sexual assault caus- ing bodily harm, armed robbery, attempting to choke another person and confinement against will, is scheduled to be sentenced on the charges in North Vancouver provincial court on Monday. By Surj Rattan News Reporter David Alexander Snow, 37, was earlier found not guilty of attemp- ted murder and kidnapping. One charge of sexual assault against him was also stayed. The charges stem from an assault on a female employee of the Bridge House restaurant on Capilano Road in North Van- couver in July, Crown counsel Greg Weber is expected to attempt to have Snow declared a dangerous offender at Monday’s sentencing. Prior to his trial in August, Snow had pleaded guilty to HH additional charges laid against him, including two counts of sex- ual assault with a weapon, one count of sexual assault and four counts of armed robbery. Snow was arrested on July 12 at about 4 a.m. outside the Bridge House restaurant after the police had found him standing over a bound and gagged female employee of the restaurant, His arrest ended a reign of ter- for that began in Vancouver in June and ended with his arrest in North Vancouver.
