sacrificed their lives

Dear Editor:

Remembrance is one of life’s
treasures, remembrance gives to all
the opportunity to spend an hour
with a book which is theirs alone,
a book which can never be taken
away, The Book of Memory, a
book which is filled with happy
chapters, poignant chapters and
sad chapters.

Therefore, on Nov. II, remem-
brance is to each his own. For me,
on hearing the Second World War
flypast at the cenotaph, I once
again am transported back in time
and memory to my garden in Kent,
where as a schoolgirl I watched the
dog fights taking place overhead,
between Spitfires, from Biggin Hill
Fighter Air Station, and enemy
planes.

Remembrance is seeing my
school chums one by one going
overseas, some never to return and
some returning battie-scarred.
Remembrance of the years when I,
too, joined the forces eager to play
but a small part in the history

which was being made.

And so my Memory Book goes
on page by page to the last ones of
that era 1939-45 to the joyous
memory of VE Day, VJ Day and
finally peace.

Tam sure I am not alone with
memories such as these, but whilst
remembering not one of us must
forget those who made the
supreme sacrifice, that we may live
to have our memories. They gave
up the opportunity to make their
own Book of Memories, these
young men and women of Canada
who so willingly gave up their
youth and lives for an ideal they
believed in.

Let us therefore keep striving for
the things they so dearly !oved and
the dream they had for peace in
the beautiful world of. ours. Let us
always have pride in our past and
faith in ou. future.

Help! Am I getting senile with
the advancing years? Or is it that 1
raissed the message of R. Keith
Duncan’s circular sent to residents
of West Vancouver?

If the ‘‘message’’ was that he

wants people to send money for
the West Vancouver Foundation
then he should say so, not beat
around the bush, or is it the
beanstalk?
