Apply fragrance to
the right body parts

SINCE THE beginning of time. people have known about the power of
scent. Perfume is part sorcery, part alchemy and part common sense. ~

Mysterious, subliminal, evocative... perfume speaks softly to the sense
of smell, saying different things to different people, igniting images of
unexpected intensity.

Ask most people what is the best place to put perfume and they'll
probably say behind the ears. While it’s true that the neck is an important
pulse point, scent rises and before long you will be perfuming the ceiling
instead of the air around you.

‘The best place to apply fragrance is below the waist and especially
behind your knees,”’ advises Margot Franssen, president of a speciality
store that sells perfume. ‘‘That way your body heat will disperse the per-
fume gradually and as the fragrance rises, you'll get more of the scent for
longer.”

Layering perfume is a good way to get the most from a fragrance.
Rather than wearing one kind of deodorant, another kind of tale and
then applying yet another perfume, wear different versions of the same
fragrance — soap, bubble bath and body massage oil perfume for a
clearer scent.

There is no question the scents can trigger memories and influence
moods,

“It is estimated that your sense of smell is 10,000 times more powerful
than your sense of taste. Scent receptors are actually a piece of the
right-brain tissue that extends down into the nose, making the perception
very direct,’’ she explains.
