2 - Sunday, December 11, 1988 ~ West Vancouver Villuger W.Van Unicef chairman calls the Audrey Hepburn event a success WEST VANCOUVERITE Claudie Desmarais, Provincial Unicef Chairman, says that the Nov. 24 ‘‘The Gift of Music’? production starring actress Audrey Hepburn was a unique event for Unicef Canada. : “We've never done anything like this before,"’ said Desmarais, who has spent the past six months with an ad hoc committee, planning the ; highly successful evening of music - at the Orpheum. Unicef Canada joined forces with CBC Radio in organizing the event to raise funds for an.im- munization program in Jamaica. The evening, which featured performances by the CBC, Van- couver Orchestra and Chorus, vio- linist Juliette Kang, pianist Naida Cole and narrations by Mavor Moore and Audrey Hepourn, was highlighted by Guarenty Trust's presentation of a2..cheque for $35,000 to Hepburn (to be match- ed by CIDA) who passed it along to Desmarais. After accepting the cheque, Desmarais made an appeal for new volunteers for Unicef, an organization “devoted to helping children around the world. Xmas concert held PERFORMING ARTS at West Vancouver Senior Secondary will present its annual Christmas concert at the school on Tuesday, Dec. The concert will include the candfe-lit processional and the tradi- 4 tional sing-along of well known carols.
